You will be able to put signs up directing people to the Room, but the college will not provide any signs around campus directing people to the event or Parking Lot M. You can also download a map of the MCC campus.

Training Session:

The Psychology of Dissent

   Wednesday, January 16, 2008: 7:00 - 9:00pm @ St. Cecilia's Church
No registration required - all referees are invited!

This class will be taught by Peter Thompson. Peter holds a B.A. in Psychology, an M.S. in Counseling and Human Relations, and is working toward a PhD in Sport Psychology. He is currently the varsity swim coach at U of R and has extensive experience in sport psychology and counseling. He presentation will include these areas of exploration:

  1. How did we get here? The Crisis in Youth Sport
  2. What do parents want? Understanding and dealing with out of control behavior
  3. Living in a fishbowl - The coach's conflict of interest.
  4. When a job well done isn't good enough - The Officials' dilemma.

This is intended as a step beyond normal instruction on dealing with dissent - which generally advises that we ignore it, remove it, or remove ourselves. Peter will touch on the root causes of dissent, perhaps opening our minds to some new ideas for more effective referee response.
